| Senior adults who live
alone frequently do not eat a balanced meal. It is
hard making a meal for one’s self and eating it alone
is not very enjoyable. Regardless of income, eating
by yourself and not having friends are the two most
important factors causing poor nutrition among senior
adults.
Through a contract with the Jefferson
County Office of Senior Citizens Services, Positive
Maturity operates three Senior Gardens which provide
senior adults a place to be with their friends while
at the same time getting a hot, nutritionally balanced
meal, Monday thru Friday. The Senior Gardens provide
informational programs about subjects of interest to
seniors like the new Medicare Part D program.
Seniors also enjoy playing games like
Dominoes and Bridge. Two Senior Gardens also have
a Meals-On-Wheels program to deliver a hot meal to
homebound seniors. The meals are free but, if possible,
a small contribution is requested.
