As the name implies the Foster Grandparent Program promotes the growth of at risk children by providing senior volunteers who tutor, mentor or nurture infants in assigned locations in Jefferson County. Assignments are available in schools, daycare centers, head start centers, and correctional institutions.
To be a foster grandparent, an individual
must be 60+ and meet certain income requirements. Volunteers
serve a minimum of 20 hours per week and receive a
small free stipend of $2.65 per hour, travel allowance
and meal allowance at some locations. The program charges
no fee for its services. |
