Mission Statement

Positively enhancing the lives of mature adults through social services and civic engagement

History

In 1970, the Independent Presbyterian Church saw a need to serve the aging community and formed an agency to meet that need. Originally named Profitable Maturity, Inc., the agency changed its name to Positive Maturity to better suit its non-profit status. In 1972, Positive Maturity became one of the early partners of the Corporation for National and Community Service through the RSVP Program. Three years later, in 1975, Positive Maturity, Inc. became a partner of United Way of Central Alabama.

Positive Maturity, Inc. continues to forge new community partnerships throughout Jefferson, Shelby, Blount and Walker Counties. Since 1970, Positive Maturity has increased its services to include (AWARE) Aging Workers Are Reliable Employees, (FGP) the Foster Grandparents Program and (SCP) the Senior Companion Program. In addition, Positive Maturity provides  recreation through the Shepherd Center East program, and social services through our Geriatric Social Worker.

After 30 years of being housed in the United Way of Central Alabama Building, Positive Maturity now has a new home on Montclair Road. The agency continues to serve the community with programs located in East Lake, E Columbiana, Oneonta, and Jasper.
